When walking through the doors of the charming retail space, it is quite apparent that founder, stylist and in-house designer, Ateefa Azad has an unremitting passion to not only grow her business to great heights but to flourish the legacy of her family reputation. She is the third-generation brainchild to be a successful business owner – her grandmother had a store-front in Fiji called ‘Female Fashion’ and her mom, Arifa Azad began her much admired business, Bombay Collection from her basement 15 years ago. Being born amongst female powerhouses, Ateefa strived to educate herself, enhance her skills, and create her own individual spotlight much before opening the doors to Bombay Couture. Within the span of 15 years, she relentlessly worked with her mom to grow Bombay Collection to its reputable entity. By taking annual buying trips to India under her mom’s wing, Ateefa learnt the ins and outs of the wholesale business while visiting manufacturing companies. She exercised her passion and learnt how to multitask like a pro when she balanced the lifestyle of a part-time employee to Bombay Collection and a full-time student to Blanche Macdonald pursuing diploma programs in Hair and Makeup and Fashion Merchandising. Ateefa also had the pinnacle opportunity to broaden her learnings of the Indian fashion market in the UK, when she briefly resided in England and Wales.
In 2014, Bombay Collection celebrated a miraculous 10 years in business and to commemorate a spectacular decade, Ateefa debuted their aristocratic store space, Bombay Couture – a luxe novelty boutique space emphasizing the modern zest and glamor appeal to the Bombay brand. Through a new revolutionized business, Ateefa recognized the untapped opportunity to create a compelling brand image and what it would take to solidify a strong future foundation. Certainly not wasting any time, she had Bombay Couture featured in lavish photoshoot experiences and high profile editorial spreads, she organized and choreographed elite fashion runway showcases with South Asian Fashion Week and Swank Bridal Show and she initiated the ultimate convenient shopping experience through bombaycouture.ca.
